A U.S. hospitality technology provider recently selected CRTLY to supply customized E-Series kiosks for its hotel self check-in applications. The initial small batch has been delivered.
The customer already had its own hotel software platform and remote front desk service. Its software also supports a live-agent hotel check-in workflow, allowing guests to receive assistance from a remote agent through the kiosk.
For this project, the customer needed a hardware manufacturer able to integrate the required devices, adapt the cabinet design and provide the interfaces for its software.
CRTLY was responsible for the kiosk hardware and hardware API support.
E-Series Hardware Configuration
The project is built around CRTLY's E-Series kiosk platform, configured with a 27-inch touchscreen and a Windows industrial PC. The hardware configuration includes a passport scanner, RFID/NFC room card dispenser, receipt printer, banknote recycler, camera and a physical tactile keypad for accessibility.
Each device serves a specific part of the hotel's check-in process. Guests can use the kiosk for document scanning, cash payment and room card collection, while the customer's software manages the check-in workflow.
The configuration was developed around the customer's application rather than taken directly from a standard product setup.
Cash Payment and Banknote Recycling
One of the key requirements was to support cash transactions, including change dispensing.
The E-Series was equipped with a banknote recycler with the following capacity:
- Cashbox: up to 1,000 banknotes.
- Recycler: 580 banknotes in total across up to four denominations.
- Functions: banknote acceptance, storage, recycling and change dispensing.
The 580-banknote capacity is shared across the supported denominations. This configuration allows the customer's software platform to incorporate cash acceptance and change dispensing into its hotel check-in workflow.
Cabinet Customization and Accessibility
At the customer's request, the standard E-Series cabinet was modified with a tray on the left side for magazines or other guest materials. A storage compartment was also added underneath the tray for storing or collecting room cards.
The kiosk also includes a physical tactile keypad as an accessibility-focused option for users who may have difficulty operating a touchscreen.
These details are important in hotel applications, where the equipment needs to fit both the available space and the way guests interact with it.
Hardware API for the Customer's Software
CRTLY supplied the hardware API interfaces needed to connect the kiosk peripherals with the customer's own software platform.
API interfaces are available for Node.js, C# and Java development environments. Depending on the selected devices and project requirements, the integration can cover peripherals such as the passport scanner, banknote recycler, card dispenser and receipt printer.
The customer retains control of its software, remote agent service and hotel system connections. CRTLY focuses on the hardware platform and the interfaces needed for communication with the integrated devices.
For software companies and system integrators, this arrangement makes it possible to develop their own hotel solutions without having to manufacture the kiosk hardware themselves.
